Convection is the circulatory motion of a fluid or a gas caused by the sun's heat.
Convection in Liquids
The cool water is on the bottom because it is more dense, and the warm water is on top because it is less dense, because the molecules are more spread out. When the warm water rises, it creates ocean currents, which keeps the water going in a circular motion, or a cycle.
