Satellite Map Activity
Area 1
1) Describe the area in terms of changes in elevation and types of landforms.
2 main streams that merge into one and a steep mountain. some hills.
2) What features can be identified in both the satellite view and the topographic map?
a mountain.
Area 2
3) Describe this area in terms of changes in elevation and types of landforms.
It is a flat area with marshes
4) What features can be identified in both the satellite view and the topographic map?
Coves and bayous, the coast.
Area 3
5) Describe this area in terms of changes in elevation and types of landforms.
a lot of steepness, you can see mountains, canyons, and a ridge. there might also be a river because there is a "v" formation
6) What features can be identified in both the satellite view and the topographic map?
Drainage areas and elevation changes
Area 4
7) Describe this area in terms of changes in elevation and types of landforms.
not very steep, goes down by nine, gradually decreases/increases steepness, there's a river, areas of depression, not a lot of elevation change
8) What features can be identified in both the satellite view and topographic map?
mostly flat, a stream
Area 5
9) Describe this area in terms of changes in elevation and types of landforms.
canyon, you can see a river splitting the creek, it is steep
10) What features can be identified in both satellite view and the topographic map?
a creek, and a canyon, and flat areas
All Areas
11) Which areas are basically flat? What is your evidence?
Area 2 and 4 because their elevation doesn't increase fast
12) Which area is probably a canyon? What is your evidence?
Area 5, it is a mountainous area with a creek splitting it.
13) Which areas are good for rock climbing and rapelling? What is your evidence?
1, 3 and 5 because they are mountainous and steep areas, contour lines are close together
14) Which area is being used for farming? What is your evidence?
Area 4 because it is a flat area
15) Which area could be described as a mountainous area? What is your evidence?
some 2, 3, and 5 because of the drainage and the contour lines are close together, therefore, it's a steeper terrain.
16) Which area has marshes? What is your evidence?
Area 2 because the coast is covered by water.
17)How does having both a topographic map and a satellite view help in analyzing an area?
It allows us to compare what it looks like, putting some perspective.
