Ocean Current Lab
1. If the water represents the ocean, and your blowing through the straw represents the wind, what does this model show about the effect of wind on the surface of the ocean?
It shows that the wind causes the currents to move in different directions
2. Based on your observations, how do you think the wind causes surface ocean currents?
When the wind blows across the surface of the earth, this cause the water to move in different directions, causing ocean currents.
3. What affect will the winds have on the direction of the currents in the different latitudes of Earth?
When the wind penetrates the water, it penetrates in a certain direction and the different latitudes affect which direction the ocean currents go, the northern hemisphere rotates clockwise and the southern hemisphere rotates counter-clockwise
It shows that the wind causes the currents to move in different directions
